Animals
Kit Fox - The tail and the ears are what you will notice about this animal. It has like a sandy color, and it has big ear. It has a black tip tail. They usually weight less than 7 pounds. It digs in loose desert soil to make it's den, but sometimes it will borrow someone's den like a badger or a prairie dog. The fox is a small, slender animal . If the fox is alerted by any threat it will readily respond by setting off a brisk pace. The kit fox hunts by night using a stalking and pouncing strategy. It feeds on mice, rats, ground squirrels, birds, lizards, snakes, and insects. Ranchers pose another inadvertent threat. Poisoned baits laid out for coyotes are often eaten by this canid. The fox pairs mate in early winter and produce a litter of four to seven in early spring. In two or three months, both parents take the young out to explore and hunt, and the family separates in autumn. The kit fox hunts by night using a stalking and pouncing strategy.
Royal Flycatcher - These showy birds are typically found in the wilds of Central and South America, in the woodland and forest areas of the Amazon River basin, and as far as Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.Like the Amazonian bird, this flycatcher is around 7 inches long at largest (18 cm) and is similarly non-threatened as far as the IUCN is concerned. They live in the dry forests and woodlands near the coastal regions of the same territories that their inland cousins dwell in. All the varieties of this group are specialists at catching insects in mid-flight with their broad bills. The part of the name “royal” is in reference to the fantastic feather display on the crown of the animal's head, which is a brilliant array of red, yellow, white, blue and/or black. These dry conditions lend themselves to forest fires which in addition to human impact have caused these species to become increasingly threatened.
Jaguar - A muscular and compact species, the jaguar weighs anywhere between 79 and 350 pounds (36 and 160 kilograms); with a length between 3.9 and 6.4 feet (1.2 and 1.95 meters). This makes the jaguar the third largest cat in the world (behind the lion and the tiger), and the largest cat in the western hemisphere. As you might know, most jaguars are covered in beautiful spots. However, there are a small percent (6%) that are all black (but sometimes they may still have visible spots) and are known as “black panthers”. The jaguar is an apex predator, and uses a stalking method to hunt whatever creature it wants. When they jaguar catches its prey, it uses the unique method of delivering a bite directly to the head of the other animal, damaging the brain and causing instant death. They can sometimes kill prey that weigh much more that the cats themselves do, sometimes up to almost 700 lbs (318 kg).
